What I offer

What I offer:

Money management workshops for women:
"Five Steps to a Successful Retirement," is the working title of my workshop for women of all ages offering the basics of retirement planning. I provide facts about what women face in their later years and tools for taking charge of their financial futures --How to select a financial advisor, how to budget for the long-term and how to determine net worth. I cover Social Security, long-term health care, annuities and why women have bigger challenges when it comes to saving money and investing for the long-term.
My goal is change the way women think, plan and save for retirement.

Freelance business writing:
My expert skills honed over 30 years of reporting and writing are available for your next writing project whether it might be a major speech or other important presentation. My business news column writing and news reporting have won regular recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists on topics such as personal finance, consumer issues and political opinion. I am a contributing writer to the Seattle-Times, Puget Sound Business Journal, Seattle Business magazine, Portland Business Journal, Vancouver Business Journal, The Reflector and The Columbian. I am a regular columnist for Clark Public Utilities on energy topics.

Event management/master of ceremonies:
As part of my 26-year career at The Columbian newspaper in Vancouver, Wash., I developed and presented the newspaper's annual economic forecast event. The project evolved into the largest business gathering in Clark County with more than 600 in attendance. As MC, I wrote the script and provided the podium transitions and introductions for nationally known guest speakers such as personal finance columnist, Michelle Singletary. I managed Q&A formats and introduced panelists. I can bring energy, humor and on-time management to your next public event.

On the air and on camera:
Stage training brings energy and focus to my television appearances. I have served as moderator for the televised Port of Vancouver Commission forum and provided interviewing services to CVTV, a cable television public access channel. I have appeared on KOIN-TV's AM Northwest and currently do a "live" weekly radio business news spot on KXL-101.1 FM in Portland, Ore.

Professional background:
I have been a working journalist for more than 30 years since I edited my twice-weekly college newspaper at an exciting time for journalists in the late 1960s. A baby-boomer, my career in business news reporting began at the Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, Wash. in the late 1970s and continued at The Columbian daily newspaper in Vancouver where I reported, wrote and edited business, personal finance and economic news for 26 years. My weekly columns have regularly been recognized as outstanding by the Society of Professional Journalists. Many of those columns were devoted to money management, investing and consumer issues.

I am a graduate of the University of Idaho, a member of Rotary International and serve on a regional advisory board for Umpqua Bank. I am a former board member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, a former member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Society of American Business Editors & Writers. I was named a "Woman of Distinction" by Washington State University Vancouver in 2009.
